Stefanie Troffaes (°1980) was born in Bruges, where she learnt to play the recorder with Tomma Wessel at a very young age. She decided to learn Baroque flute after having become enchanted by its sound at the age of eleven, and her talent and enthusiasm for this instrument were first nurtured by Patrick Beuckels.
She subsequently studied Baroque flute with Marc Hantaï, Frank Theuns and Barthold Kuijken at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, graduating with ‘magna cum laude’ in 2003. She also obtained a Masters in recorder there under Bart Coen. She was selected to participate with the Académie baroque européenne d’Ambronay to work under the direction of Christophe Rousset (2001) and Paul McCreesh (2002). Stefanie was awarded the esteemed Köberle Prize in recognition of her exceptional musical talents by the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. In 2002, she became a finalist on Baroque flute at the Musica Antiqua (MA festival) international soloist competition in Bruges, Belgium. Stefanie Troffaes has been nominated ‘Young Talent 2014′ of the Belgian classical radio Klara.
She continues to pursue a historical approach in current performance practice, and her musical interests cover the Renaissance to the early Romantic periods. Stefanie had the pleasure to play recitals together with harpsichord player Julien Wolfs in superb concert halls such as Bozar Brussels, Amuz (International Early Music Centre) and Concertgebouw Brugge.
She performs freelance with various renowned early music ensembles such Insula Orchestra (Laurence Equilbey), Les Talens Lyriques (Christophe Rousset), Gli Angeli Genève (Stephan MacLeod), Les Muffati, Les Passions de l’Ame and Dunedin Consort (John Butt).
